Role Overview
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will provide strategic and operational leadership for the organization's IT function during a period of transformation. This role is responsible for stabilizing the technology team, clarifying governance and ownership, advising on infrastructure outsourcing, and delivering a clear, pragmatic multi‑year IT roadmap aligned with business priorities.
The CIO will work closely with senior leadership to ensure technology effectively supports business operations, scalability, cost efficiency, and future growth, while improving execution discipline and technical capability across the IT function.
Key Responsibilities
IT Leadership & Governance
- Assume overall leadership of the IT function, providing clear direction, prioritization, and decision-making.
- Establish IT governance, operating model, and accountability frameworks across regional teams.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on technology strategy, risks, and investment decisions.
IT Strategy & Roadmap
- Develop and deliver a practical 3‑year IT roadmap covering systems, infrastructure, security, data, and capabilities.
- Align technology initiatives with business objectives, operational needs, and cost discipline.
- Balance short-term stabilization needs with longer-term transformation goals.
Technology Organization & Talent
- Assess the current IT team structure, roles, and headcount to identify gaps, overlaps, and inefficiencies.
- Recommend future-state organisation design, including role consolidation or capability uplift where required.
- Identify skill gaps and advise on targeted upskilling, reskilling, or external support.
- Provide leadership and clarity to teams across multiple countries or locations.
IT Operations & Outsourcing
- Review existing IT operations and infrastructure to identify opportunities for outsourcing or managed services, particularly for infrastructure and operational support.
- Lead or advise on the selection, engagement, and transition to managed service providers where appropriate.
- Ensure clear scope definition, service levels, and accountability for outsourced services.
- Simplify and stabilise business-as-usual IT operations.
Infrastructure, Cloud & Security
- Oversee infrastructure strategy including cloud adoption, hosting, networks, and end-user computing.
- Ensure systems are secure, resilient, and compliant with relevant regulatory and business requirements.
- Identify and mitigate cyber, operational, and continuity risks.
Data, Analytics & Systems Enablement
- Provide strategic oversight of data platforms, data warehouses, and reporting infrastructure.
- Ensure data architecture supports clean, reliable, and scalable reporting and analytics.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders while maintaining clear ownership between IT enablement and business data consumption.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Engage closely with business leaders to understand operational needs and translate them into technology priorities.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors, consultants, and service providers to ensure value delivery.
- Advise on cost optimization and ROI for technology investments.
Requirements & Experience
Professional Experience
- Proven experience as a CIO, Head of IT, or equivalent senior technology leader, preferably in a multi-country or regional environment.
- Strong background in IT transformation, infrastructure modernization, and outsourcing.
- Experience stabilizing or turning around IT teams lacking clear leadership or structure.
- Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and execution levels.
Technical & Strategic Competence
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, enterprise systems, and cybersecurity.
- Experience designing pragmatic IT roadmaps rather than theoretical frameworks.
- Ability to assess when to build, buy, or outsource capabilities effectively.
Leadership & Communication
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous or transitional environments.
- Collaborative leadership style with a focus on clarity, simplicity, and outcomes.
Preferred
- Experience in organizations undergoing restructuring, scaling, or leadership transition.
- Exposure to regulated or compliance-conscious environments.
- Prior experience in fractional, interim, or advisory CIO roles is an advantage.
