Role Summary
The Junior Security Specialist supports daily cybersecurity operations by monitoring security events, conducting vulnerability assessments, reviewing security alerts, assisting with incident response activities, maintaining documentation, and supporting remediation efforts under the direction of the Cybersecurity Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor SIEM, endpoint protection, IDS/IPS, and security monitoring platforms.
- Perform vulnerability scans using Tenable, Nessus, BigFix, and other approved tools.
- Review security alerts and perform initial incident triage.
- Support incident investigations and document findings.
- Assist in vulnerability remediation tracking and POA&M updates.
- Review audit logs and identify suspicious activities.
- Maintain cybersecurity documentation, SOPs, and operational records.
- Support weekly status reports, vulnerability metrics, and executive reporting.
- Participate in threat hunting, lessons learned activities, and continuous monitoring efforts.
- Support compliance with NIST, FISMA, DOJ, and EOIR cybersecurity requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 2–3 years of experience supporting cybersecurity operations, vulnerability management, or incident response.
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools and security monitoring platforms.
- Basic understanding of SIEM technologies, endpoint security, Windows security logs, and networking concepts.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOJ Public Trust clearance.
