Position Information
The Security department provides protective services, safety and security with a care-first enforcement based policy that ensures the overall safety of staff, patients and volunteers. The work that you do at The Ottawa Hospital matters because you are key player on a team that is committed to providing each patient with an exceptional experience by demonstrating compassion, respect for all, a collaborative spirit and a commitment to quali ty.
Rotation/Shifts
Days, and nights, including weekends and stat holidays, 12 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements
- Two (2) year Community College Diploma in Police Foundations and/or Security Management or equivalent;
- Three (3) years' experience in the security, police, corrections, or military discipline field;
- CPR and Basic First Aid Certificates;
- Ontario Security Guard License;
- Ability to learn and apply working knowledge of the Criminal Code, provincial statues including but not limited to the Mental Health Act and the Trespass to Property Act, and other pertinent crime prevention strategies;
- Ability to learn and apply basic surveillance, investigation, and interviewing techniques in simple investigations;
- Ability to learn and apply hospital and departmental policies and procedures;
- Ability to exercise sound judgement when responding to life safety/ emergency situations;
- Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with information that may be confidential/personal/sensitive or in matters of political/legal/economic importance;
- Ability to interact with a variety of individuals;
- Ability to respond and set priorities to meet deadlines and attain goals;
- Supervisory skills;
- Knowledge of emergency and security principles;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to complete legible reports for presentation;
- Basic investigative and observational skills;
- Basic Fire Prevention and suppression skills;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook;
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year experience in a health care setting;
- Hazardous material recognition (HAZMAT);
- Restraint and Use of Force training;
- Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
