Job Description
Join a high-growth scale-up as their first Security Engineer, owning application security across a 60+ person engineering team. You will partner with product squads to build secure systems from the ground up for a platform used by Netflix, Airbnb, and Block. This is a foundational role with massive ownership and technical influence.
Location

Why this role is remarkable
- Foundational hire opportunity: As the first security-specific engineer, you will shape the entire security culture and function from day one without legacy debt.
- Elite backing and traction: Backed by Index Ventures and Insight Partners with $100M raised, serving 1,500+ top-tier tech companies globally.
- Product-driven engineering: Work in a high-trust, ex-Monzo leadership environment that values shipping daily and uses a modern Go and TypeScript stack.
What You Will Do
- Lead application security by partnering with product teams to design and review features with security built in from the initial architecture phase.
- Identify and remediate vulnerabilities using both white-box code reviews and black-box penetration testing across applications, APIs, and GCP infrastructure.
- Build and implement pragmatic security tooling and automation that strengthens defenses without compromising the engineering team's high shipping velocity.
The ideal candidate
- Senior or Staff-level experience with a deep track record in vulnerability research, penetration testing, and secure code review for modern web stacks.
- Hands-on proficiency in Go, TypeScript, or React, with the ability to influence design and implementation decisions directly alongside product engineers.
- Pragmatic approach to risk management within cloud environments (GCP), prioritizing high-impact security improvements while maintaining a culture of rapid delivery.
Who are Jack & Jill?
Ok, I'll go first. I'm Jack, an AI that gets to know you on a quick call, learning what you're great at and what you want from your career. Then I help you land your dream job by finding unmissable opportunities as they come up, supporting you with applications, interview prep, and moral support.
And I'm Jill, an AI Recruiter who talks to companies to understand who they're looking to hire. Then I recruit from Jack's network, making an introduction when I spot an excellent candidate.
How does this work?
- Jack's an AI agent for job searching and career coaching. He works for you.
- Jill is the AI recruiter working for the company. She recruits from Jack's network.
- If it's a match and the company wants to meet you, they'll make the intro. In the meantime, if you'd like, Jack will send you excellent alternatives.
