Qualifications
- Education/Certification: High school diploma (or equivalent)
Required
- Valid drivers license
- CPR, First Aid and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI)
certifications (or ability to obtain)
- Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to remain calm and exercise sound
judgement under pressure, Strong interpersonal and communication
skills, Ability to de-escalate conflicts and interact respectfully
with students of diverse backgrounds
- Working knowledge of safety procedures and emergency response
practices
- Proficiency with basic technology including radios and security
camera systems
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer,
phone and radios
- Posture: Prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to respond quickly in emergencies, including running short
distances or performing basic physical intervention if necessary
- Motion: Significant pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting,
bending/stooping and fine finger dexterity
- Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
- Risk for exposure to injury and/or illness in some varying
atmospheric conditions
- May involve exposure to confrontational situations
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional
control under stress, solve problems, make decisions and be flexible
Responsibilities
- The Security Officer helps maintain a safe and orderly environment
for students, staff, and visitors
- This position is responsible for monitoring campus activity,
enforcing school policies, responding to incidents, and promoting a
positive school climate
- The Security Guard works collaboratively with administrators, local
law enforcement, and staff to prevent and address safety concerns
- Ability to write clear and detailed incident reports
- Must be able to multi-task and remain calm during stressful
situations
- Demonstrate basic computer skills and be able to use Google and
Microsoft products
- Provide a visible, approachable presence that fosters trust and
promotes positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Monitor entrances, hallways, parking lots, and common areas to
ensure safety and compliance with school rules
- Assist with student arrival, dismissal, and lunch periods to
maintain orderly flow and prevent unauthorized access
- Perform daily bag checks/searches for identified students
- Monitor and respond to vape alarms
- Ensure students, staff and visitors have lanyard and/or
identification visible
- Patrol the campus and grounds regularly to deter inappropriate
behavior and identify safety hazards
- Respond promptly and professionally to disturbances, altercations,
or emergencies
- Monitor security cameras and report suspicious behavior or safety
concerns
- Work with administrators and law enforcement in investigating
incidents and completing reports
- Support emergency drills (fire, lockdown, tornado, etc.) and ensure
adherence to safety protocols
- Prepare and maintain accurate written reports of incidents,
accidents, and observations
- Assist with traffic control and parking lot management during school
hours and events
- Greet and screen visitors in accordance with district security
procedures
- Participate in safety meetings and professional development related
to security operations, crisis management, de-escalation, and
student engagement
- Work cooperatively with all staff on various tasks and/or
assignments
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient
and effective functioning of the work unit
- Demonstrates good judgement, and is able to plan, organize and make
decisions and prioritize work to meet daily demands
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and
appearance
- Environment: Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision
