The Vacancy
Role Purpose And Summary
The Security Department operates and maintains a wide range of critical systems including electronic security, automation, power, IT/network infrastructure, and life‑safety systems. These systems are essential to site protection, personnel safety, operational continuity, and compliance with ISO 14298 security management standards.
This role exists to provide dedicated in‑house technical capability, enabling fast fault resolution, structured preventive maintenance, strong technical governance, effective supplier oversight, and the controlled introduction of new technologies.
The Technical Support Engineer – Security is responsible for delivering hands‑on technical support, advanced troubleshooting, system integration, and engineering assurance for all security‑related systems. The role ensures system availability, integrity, compliance, confidentiality, and rapid response during emergency situations, while directly supporting Site Security Management with expert technical advice and documentation.
Key Accountabilities
- Act as the primary technical authority for all security systems onsite
- Perform full troubleshooting across CCTV, access control, alarms, fire panels, servers, networks, PLCs, automation, and power systems
- Respond rapidly to emergency breakdowns and silence‑hour incidents, ensuring restoration of critical security functions
- Implement immediate containment, temporary controls, and permanent corrective actions
- Ensure availability of security and life‑safety systems during critical incidents
- Support the design, introduction, commissioning, and handover of new security and automation systems
- Ensure new technologies integrate correctly with existing PLCs, power systems, networks, and security platforms
- Participate in testing, validation, and acceptance processes prior to live operation
- Identify technical risks, incompatibility, or gaps before system deployment
- Support site modernization and future technology adoption initiatives
- Support servers, workstations, storage, and network switches used by security systems
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC‑controlled equipment (gates, barriers, turnstiles, loading bay interlocks)
- Manage DC power systems (UPS, batteries, low‑voltage distribution)
- Support AC electrical systems including grounding, protection, and electrical safety compliance
- Support fire detection and alarm systems in coordination with authorized bodies
- Develop structured preventive maintenance schedules and procedures
- Perform inspections, firmware/software updates, backups, and health checks
- Identify failure trends, ageing assets, and system weaknesses
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions
- Improve system resilience, availability, and lifecycle reliability
- Act as the technical point of contact between the organization and all security system suppliers, contractors, and service providers
- Technically review and validate supplier:
- System designs and technical proposals
- Installation methods and workmanship
- System configurations, settings, and integrations
- Test results, commissioning data, and handover documentation
- Ensure supplier work complies with:
- Approved specifications and drawings
- Security and safety standards
- Site operational and governance requirements
- Coordinate supplier activities during installations, upgrades, maintenance, and fault response
- Monitor supplier performance and raise quality, compliance, or reliability concerns to Security Management
- Ensure all defects and punch list items are fully resolved before work acceptance
- Prevent long‑term vendor dependency by maintaining internal technical understanding and documentation
- Support compliance with ISO 14298 Security Operations Management Systems
- Maintain technical governance, change control, and system validation processes
- Ensure systems remain auditable, controlled, documented, and compliant
- Provide technical evidence, logs, and documentation for audits and inspections
- Support corrective actions arising from audit or compliance findings
- Maintain detailed records for:
- Faults, incidents, and emergency responses
- Maintenance activities and preventive tasks
- System changes, upgrades, and configuration adjustments
- Supplier work, validations, and acceptance sign‑offs
- Maintain up‑to‑date drawings, schematics, configurations, asset registers, and change logs
- Prepare technical incident reports and performance summaries for the Site Security Manager
- Proactively escalate risks, vulnerabilities, and recurring issues with clear recommendations
- Provide regular technical updates and advice for Site Security Management
- Support decision‑making related to system risk, readiness, and improvement priorities
- Support the Security Department in maintaining continuous operational capability
- Provide technical guidance and basic system awareness training to security officers
- Handle all security systems, data, configurations, and infrastructure with strict confidentiality
- Comply with information security, access control, and ethical conduct requirements
- Protect sensitive technical and operational information at all times

- Strong expertise in electronics, electrical engineering, and automation systems
- Hands‑on experience with security systems and control technologies, including CCTV, intrusion detection, and access control systems
- Proven understanding of PLC logic, automation systems, and structured fault diagnosis
- Sound knowledge of AC and DC power systems, including UPS and low‑voltage distribution
- Good working knowledge of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, switches, VLANs)
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, schematics, and documentation
- Strong analytical, logical, and structured troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure, including during emergencies
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal ability
- Excellent record‑keeping, documentation, and reporting discipline
- Strong project planning and coordination skills
- Significant proven experience in physical security operations within a disciplined or regulated environment
- Good knowledge and practical experience in Health and Safety requirements
- Assertive and professional approach with the ability to challenge suppliers and enforce standards
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality, with strong security awareness

CAPABILITY (qualifications, Experience, And Skills)
Essential
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
- Proven hands‑on experience supporting complex security and control systems
- Demonstrated experience responding to system failures, critical incidents, and emergency breakdowns
- Practical experience working with security management software, including:
- Milestone XProtect (CCTV / Video Management Systems)
- Win‑Pak (Access Control and Intrusion Management Systems)
Desirable
- Experience working in high‑security, industrial, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure environments
- Knowledge of ISO 14298 or equivalent security compliance frameworks
- Relevant technical certifications related to:
- CCTV and Video Management Systems
- Access Control and Intrusion Detection Systems
- Networking, electrical safety, or automation systems
