Work involves monitoring and patrolling grounds; checking employees, youth, and visitors in and out of the facility; inspecting and safeguarding youth, staff, visitors, buildings, properties, and equipment; maintaining facility security; and traffic control.Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek, be on-call.Essential Job DutiesControls entrances and exits to secured buildings; patrols grounds; monitors for unauthorized persons, fires, and unusual occurrences; and immediately reports emergencies upon discovery. Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, youth, visitors, and other authorized personnel to maintain security of premises. Identifies, reports, confronts, and/or apprehends persons/suspects in cases of unauthorized entry or exit from facility buildings. Greets visitors and maintains logs/records of all persons entering/exiting the facility.Ensures doors and windows are locked and lights are on or off as required.Responds to alarms, investigates and reports disturbances.Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested timeframes.Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.Actively embody and support the Texas Model by demonstrating its core values in daily tasks and interactions with others.Minimum QualificationsMust be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a valid drivers license.Experience and Education Substitutions:One year of appropriate experience may substitute for one year of college (30 course hours) on a year for year basis.Completed course hours of undergraduate study may substitute for up to four years of experience on a basis of 30 course hours for one year of experience.Completed course hours of graduate study may substitute for up to two years of experience on a basis of 12 graduate course hours for one year of experience.Pro-rated part-time experience may satisfy the experience requirement.Note: Any degree, diploma, high school equivalent, or course hours required to meet minimum qualifications must be from an accredited educational institution.Requirements for continued employment:Maintain a valid drivers license.Failure to maintain required license will result in termination of employment.This position is subject to mandatory pre-employment drug testing and any offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results from a drug screen conducted for the agency.Preferred QualificationsLevel II or III security guard license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.Military police experience.Military experience.Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesKnowledge of emergency eporting procedures.Skill in meeting and handling individuals entering and exiting a security environment.Skill in monitoring and assessing situations.Skill in determining an appropriate response.Skill in verbal communications with others.Skill in use of monitoring, surveillance, and detection equipment.Skill in operating computers and using applicable computer software.Ability to enforce security rules and regulations.Ability to remain alert, observant, and physically able to respond appropriately to work situations or emergencies including, but not limited to, physical restraint of youth.Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.Ability to communicate effectively.Ability to maintain and keep accurate records, files, or logs.Ability to analyze situations quickly and take effective action.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.Ability to work a variety of shifts, weekends, and holidays.Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek and be on-call.Physical RequirementsThe following physical demands and working conditions are representative of those encountered when performing the essential functions of this job.
