Role Description The Traffic Enforcement Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Baltimore, MD. The individual in this role monitors streets, parking areas, and designated zones to enforce traffic and parking regulations, issuing citations or warnings as appropriate. Daily responsibilities include observing and documenting violations, collecting and securing evidence as needed, and preparing clear and accurate reports. The role involves regular interaction with community members to provide information, answer questions, and support voluntary compliance with traffic laws. The Traffic Enforcement Officer works both independently and as part of a team, often outdoors in varying weather conditions and in coordination with other city departments and public safety partners.

Qualifications

  • Ability to apply traffic and parking regulations in a consistent and fair manner; familiarity with basic law enforcement principles relevant to traffic enforcement.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with the public, explain regulations, and de-escalate tense situations when needed.
  • Skills in observation, investigation, and evidence documentation, including accurate note-taking, report writing, and handling of supporting materials (e.g., photos, records).
  • Ability to work outdoors on foot for extended periods, including in varying weather conditions, and to navigate city streets and neighborhoods safely.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in transportation, security, law enforcement support, or a related public service field is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and integrity, with the ability to follow established procedures and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, and ability to work variable shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
