Primary Purpose
Plan, implement, administer, and support cybersecurity systems and practices to protect the district's network, systems, and data from cyber threats. Responsible for helping maintain the district's day to day cybersecurity posture, including monitoring security events, responding to incidents, assessing risk, and strengthening security controls across a K through 12 environment.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience
- CompTIA Security+, ISC2 SSCP, ISC2 CISSP, or equivalent industry recognized cybersecurity certification preferred
Experience
- Two to three years of experience in cybersecurity, systems administration, network administration, or related technology roles preferred
- Experience with security tools, incident response, network security, systems hardening, or identity and access management preferred
- Experience in a K12 or enterprise technology environment preferred
Knowledge And Skills
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and threat mitigation
- Knowledge of security monitoring tools, including SIEM, SOAR, or centralized logging platforms
- Knowledge of endpoint, network, identity, and cloud security practices
- Knowledge of network security concepts including firewalls, access control lists, segmentation strategies, least privilege network access, and wireless security
- Knowledge of data protection concepts, including data loss prevention, data classification, and handling of sensitive data
- Familiarity with eDiscovery, records retention, and legal hold processes
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and best practices, such as NIST or CIS
- Ability to analyze and respond to security incidents
- Ability to independently research, learn, and apply new cybersecurity concepts and technologies
- Strong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills
- Effective communication skills with technical and nontechnical users
Major Responsibilities And Duties
Security Monitoring and Incident Response
- Monitor and analyze security alerts and events across district systems
- Investigate, document, and respond to cybersecurity incidents
- Coordinate incident response activities with internal staff and external partners
- Maintain incident logs and prepare reports as required
- Monitor and report on key security metrics, including incident trends, response times, and system vulnerabilities
Threat Intelligence and Risk Management
- Review and assess cybersecurity advisories, alerts, and threat intelligence from trusted sources
- Determine potential impact to district systems and implement mitigation strategies
- Perform security assessments of systems, networks, and configurations to identify vulnerabilities
- Recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies
Security Systems Administration
- Administer and maintain district security systems, including:
- Network and perimeter security controls
- Endpoint protection systems
- Identity and access management, including multi factor authentication
- Email and cloud security platforms
- Security monitoring and analytics systems
- Implement and maintain security controls such as firewall policies, access control lists, network segmentation, least privilege access, and wireless security configurations
- Implement and manage data protection controls, including data loss prevention (DLP) policies and monitoring
- Identify, classify, and protect sensitive data, including student records, staff information, and district operational data
- Evaluate and harden configurations for network infrastructure, endpoints, and cloud services in alignment with security best practices
- Configure and tune systems to improve detection and reduce false positives
- Continuously improve the district's security architecture and controls
Security Awareness and Training
- Support cybersecurity awareness programs for staff and students
- Coordinate phishing simulations and training activities
- Promote safe and responsible use of district technology
Compliance and Policy
- Assist in maintaining compliance with state and federal cybersecurity and data protection requirements
- Develop and update cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards
- Support audits, assessments, and reporting requirements
- Support eDiscovery processes, including data identification, preservation, and retrieval for legal or administrative requests
- Assist in maintaining data governance practices, including data retention and protection of sensitive data
Collaboration and Support
- Work with IT staff to ensure secure implementation of systems and services
- Provide guidance on cybersecurity best practices
- Recommend and implement security improvements in coordination with IT leadership
- Serve as a resource for cybersecurity related issues
