About The Role

The City and County of Broomfield is seeking a dedicated IT Security Analyst to join its dynamic IT team. This role is instrumental in supporting the cybersecurity framework, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the city’s data and systems. Reporting to the IT Senior Security Analyst, the successful candidate will perform a range of routine to complex support and technical tasks related to information security systems. The position involves implementing cybersecurity measures, developing security policies, and providing expert guidance to staff and stakeholders to safeguard the city’s technological infrastructure. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information systems, management information systems, or a closely related field. A minimum of two years of experience with Microsoft Windows client and server technologies, including Active Directory, TCP/IP network administration, and firewall management is required. Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, Perl, or PHP for automation tasks is preferred. Additionally, at least one year of experience specifically in information technology security is necessary. Certification such as ITIL Foundation is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates must hold a valid Colorado Driver’s License and maintain a safe driving record. The role requires passing background checks, fingerprinting, and other pre-employment screenings to ensure suitability for working in a government environment.

Responsibilities

The IT Security Analyst will be responsible for evaluating, upgrading, implementing, and maintaining hardware and software applications from a security perspective. Developing and enforcing policies and procedures that balance end-user functionality with a secure operational environment is a key aspect of the role. The analyst will investigate known and emerging threats to the city’s infrastructure, staying current on industry threat intelligence to assess risks and develop remediation plans. Maintaining knowledge of industry standards and best practices ensures the security systems remain robust and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. Collaboration with various teams is essential to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of new and existing services within the city’s IT service catalog. Managing IT tickets and workload effectively to meet departmental goals, providing guidance to administrators, and preparing reports and data analyses are also core responsibilities. The role includes assisting in strategic planning, supporting departmental activities, and recommending operational improvements to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The analyst must also participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay current with technological advancements and security trends. Additionally, the position involves working in a hybrid environment, requiring flexibility to support both in-office and remote work, including on-call duties during weekends or emergencies.
